To Joe and other Crossbill seekers: I live near Liberty Lake and have been checking the crossbills for almost a month. My Christmas morning sightings at Deer Park Road will always be one of my best birding memories. The crossbills have become less overwhelming since then, but I, and many other birders, saw them there again last weekend. I am cursed by work-for-a-living-syndrome during the week so I can't vouch for the last few days, but it appears the crossbills have settled in for the winter. I would go for 'em, especially if they are life-birds or state-birds. It may require some hours of waiting around, but it seems like most people who give it a serious effort DO see them. Deer Park Rd seems to be best in the morning before 10:00. Pine Knob Rd. seems to get them periodically throughout the day. But you've got to be patient. They are rather noisy when they move around. That's the best way to locate them. Steve Sanford
