FYI. I thought the list might find this of interest. I'll keep everyone posted
on the deliberations.

Rick --

Have you been talking to JLS? I finally got back all 7 rolls of slides from
Conowingo. Several are killer shots of the spread wing, and surprise,
surprise, the greater secondary coverts have a distinct arrow shaped pattern.
(I showed these to Jim and Marshall at the Carroll County winter bird count
tally, Jim was emphatic in his feelings). The median secondary coverts are a
closer call, but they appear closer to delawarensis. The literature seems a
little fuzzy on the greaters (e.g. cited by Tove, but not mentioned in the
Macmillian guide).

I plan on going through the literature, having a good set of prints made and
distributing to everyone. I don't admit to knowing enough to call this one,
but the photos should answer our questions. I never liked this bird (jizz,
contrast in wing, bill, etc.), as it seemed the tail was really the only thing
going for it, but maybe that's enough. Perhaps we should all get together for
a beer and mull over the photos?
