Despite the impending freezes, Spring was in the air at Flag Ponds Nature Park today. An EASTERN PHOEBE was calling as I started down the trail, then I began hearing and seeing PINE WARBLERS. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were almost absent. The beach yielded some real jewels -- one adult NORTHERN GANNET and one RED-THROATED LOON joined the BUFFLEHEADS, RUDDY DUCKS AND HORNED GREBES. A solitary PIED-BILLED GREBE foraged on Duncan's Pond along with three HOODED MERGANSERS and a solitary AMERICAN WIGEON. ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com ||
