Gail Frantz and I made a pilgrimage to Deal Island at dusk Sat evening.
And indeed, as Jim Stasz predicted, we did not see any Short-eared Owls,
unlike many previous years. We were compensated by about 75
Black-crowned Night-Herons flying over, and several Virginia Rails
calling. Earlier, the waterfowl off Riley Roberts Rd were sparse but
included Coots, Scaup, and lots of Shovelers. Off the Gun Club (?) road
we had 2 B-w Teal, which is where we saw the night-herons and heard the
rails.

We did not find the Eur G-w Teal at E A Vaughn WMA. We heard a La.
Waterthrush there. At OC Inlet we had 3 Harlequins but not much else due
to the boats and jet-skis. This, and the hordes of rap-blasting
beach-lovers made me wonder where are the Great White Sharks when we
need them? There's something to be said for winter temperatures there!

West OC Pond had mainly L Scaup, Shovelers, Canvasbacks, and Ruddy
Ducks. The little marsh a block or two east of the pond gave us
Tri-colored and Great Blue Heron, and Snowy and Great Egrets.
