Woodbridge Highlights

Some of the most interesting sightings on this morning's trip to 
Woodbridge (former Diamond labs; future Occoquan NWR) included:

        Wood Ducks
        Ruddy Ducks (several hundred)
        Blue-winged Teals
        Red-breasted Mergansers
        Bonaparte's Gulls (large flock)
        Bald Eagles (adults & juveniles)
        Ospreys (several active nests)
        King Rails        
        Great Horned Owls (adult & 2 fledglings mobbed by crows)
        Barred Owls (adult & juvenile)
        Pileated Woodpeckers
        Eastern Kingbirds
        Warblers:
                Northern Parula
                Yellow
                Yellow-rumped (numerous)
                Palm
                Prothonotary
                Common Yellowthroat
        Rusty Blackbirds
        Ruby-crowned Kinglet
        Blue-gray Gnatcatchers.
Altogether, 78 species were seen between 7:30 and 11:30 by two groups.
(A hardy few came before dawn and saw 9 woodcocks!)

Only group visits to Woodbridge are possible at this time but Fairfax
Audubon Society and the Northern Virginia Bird Club schedule them 
quite regularly.
