Michel, I would recommend two publications to help you with your
Assateague trip:

1) Finding Birds in the National Capital Area, by Claudia Wilds, Revised
1992.
This is available for $13.50 from the American Birding Association;
their catalog is online at
http://www.americanbirding.org/abasales/catbbkindx.htm

2) The Field List of the Birds of Maryland, by Marshall J. Iliff, Robert
F. Ringler and James L. Stasz and published by the Maryland
Ornithological Society. We call it "The Yellowbook." It is much more
than a list - it has graphs showing seasonal distribution of all the
birds, and charts showing which counties they are found in. So you would
be able to use it to determine what should be at Assateague when you are
there. It is a bargain at $2.00 US, and may be purchased by sending a
check or money order to The Maryland Ornithological Society, Cylburn
Mansion, 4915 Greenspring Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21209. You might
need to enclose additional money for return postage to Canada, and let
them know that you need it quickly.

Also, you should check out the MOS web site at
http://www2.ari.net/saunderf/mos/mos.html l for more information about
Maryland birds.

Good birding,
Marcia Watson-Whitmyre
Cecil County, MD
