Hey, all! The World Series of Birding is just two weeks off!!! I can't remember where we stood the last time I brought everyone up to date, but we've received a few more pledges since then and our cumulative total is now $4.45 per species sighted. I know that Lydia Schindler has also signed up some of the Montgomery County folks and will be forwarding me more pledges and a few donations as soon as she has time, and that should bring us up close to a cumulative $7 per species pledged. Now, as to donations! We've received donations from 5 MOS couples, a very generous check from The Backyard Naturalist in Olney Maryland, and, topping it all off quite nicely, a most surprising check for $500 from the Edward P. Wilson Memorial Fund of the Anne Arundel Chapter of the MOS. The total in donations so far amounts to $805 and, as I said, with some more still to come in from Montgomery County! To all of you who have supported us so far....THANK YOU!!! I know we got off to a late start and I know that everyone is being bombarded by requests for pledges and donations at this time of year, but keep this in mind: the money MOS earns from this fund-raising effort will stay in Maryland, it will benefit the birds in Maryland, and it will enhance our educational outreach programs as well. We need to pull some of the youngsters of the State away from their computer screens and out into the real world. Please, if you haven't already sent me a pledge or a donation ...consider doing so. I can't think of a better cause! You can send your pledge to me by e-mail at osprey@ari.net. If you have any questions at all---ask me! Cheers, Norm =============== Norm Saunders Colesville, MD osprey@ari.net
