A Visit to Baltimore

Fran and I went up to Baltimore today, visiting some of the sites
mentioned in Claudia's book. After lunch we found ourselves on
Millers Island Road, just beyond a section of marsh called the
Blackmarsh Wildlands. We parked our car at 12th St. (where Claudia
said to park) and walked back along the shoulder to see if we could
scare anything up in this marsh area.

We were approached by three separate automobiles, all driving at very
high rates of speed. As they drew close, they pulled closer and
closer to the edge of the road, seemingly trying to scare us with
their proximity. Then, a short time later, a car full of teenagers
came down the road at a more sedate speed, so that we would have no
trouble at all hearing the obscenities that they were shouting at us,
I suppose. Finally, yet another car full of teens came flying along
and they threw a full cup of Coke at us, luckily missing both of us.

Will some one please tell me what the heck is the problem up in this
part of town? Why this antipathy to birders? Or is this just a
sample of the type of populace to be found in this lovely part of
Baltimore?

Disgusted and bummed out,
Norm
