an hour late-afternoon walk on roosevelt island DC turned up few warblers
(one yellow, one parula, rest yellow-rumps), but a nice white-crowned
sparrow and baltimore oriole along the rosslyn bike path down to the
island from the metro station, and a pair of red-breasted mergansers under
the roosevelt bridge, which I thought would've been gone by early May.

the park service is still working on the wooden boardwalk through the
swamp, which remains closed. large patches of yellow iris can be seen
blooming from across the water, though.

a pair of late red-breasted mergansers were on the potomac river under the
roosevelt bridge, just off roosevelt island, dc, on monday, 4 may. also
of note was a white-crowned sparrow in rosslyn, along the bicycle path to
roosevelt island.
