Hi Rog! Shoow, that was some kinda birdin you were doin yesterday eve. Sounds like quite a show. But, I'll have you know that Frank Boyle, Sam Freiberg and I birded "the birdiest mile" again yesterday for May count, in between rain drops and came up with about 69-70 species by about 11:30. After Sam left, Frank and I countinued birding around Greenbridge Rd. and found some more species, then I continued again after Frank left, birding on and off til around 4:45. I ended the day with 80 species. Our highlights included 14 Common Loons (!!) on the reservoir, Blue-winged, Black-throated Blue and Green Warblers, Ovenbirds, Myrtle (yellow-rumpd) Wrblers, Am. Redstarts, a pair of Golden-winged Warblers (seen only by Sam while he birded an area alone, and probably the best bird of the day that Frank and I didn't see!), N. Parulas, Yellow Warbler, Pine Warbler, Prairie Warbler, many Black& whites, a singing Worm-eating Warbler, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-throated, Blue-headed, White-eyed and Red-eyed Vireos, Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, E. Meadowlark, singing from its mid-field perch Grasshopper Sparrow, Am. Kestrel, male and female Bobolinks, Swamp Sparrows, Great Blue and Green Herons, Barn, Bank, Cliff, and Tree Swallows, Wood, Swainsons Thrushes, Veery, Bluebird and Robin, Catbird, Mockingbird and Thrasher, Cedar Waxwings, Orchard and Baltimore Oriole , to name a few (heh, heh). Out of 83 species seen by our group, I only missed 3, giving me 80 (plus 3 sp.) for the day. We had a large falcon sp. fly over at dawn that we saw only in silhouette, so it remained unidentified, a single uncalling empidonax sp. and a number of crow species as well. What a great day. I finished up at Brighton Dam around 4:45 with a beautiful Common Loon in breeding plumage feeding about 40 feet from me right in front of the dam. Way cool!! Thanks for the fine write up about your day, too. Good to hear from you again. I will be going out next Saturday for a full half day of birding (by myself) if you'd like to join me. Give a ring at 301-774-1185 if you want to. Cheers, Rick. Rick Sussman Ashton, MD Warblerick@aol.com
