The Prince George's Audubon Society held its annual Birdathon fund raiser on May 2nd. This year ours teams stayed entirely within PG county. That and the lousy weather kept our total species well under last year's 159. Five teams, covering the county from north to south and east to west tallied 123 different species this year in one day. The highest team total goes to Fred & Jane Fallon with 103 ticks. They also had the highlight of the day- an imm. Mississippi Kite! Other good birds were Pectoral Sandpiper, Woodcock, 4 different tern species, 2 teams with Bobolinks and a Savannah Sparrow. It wasn't a very good migrant day- only 17 warbler species and no thrushes except Wood, Robin and one Veery singing far away at first light. Thanks to Jay Pape, Mike Quinlan, Jack Saba, Carolyn Sturtevant and the Fallons for truding through the rain. Tom Beal Glenn Dale, MD
