Trip from Hell

Last week I attempted to bird Turkey Point in Cecil Co, in the company
of my brother & wife ( basically nonbirders ) , who visited from Canada
for the week. As I meandered along at the usual birding pace, they
quickly outdistanced me, whereupon my brother came trotting back to
tell me they`d go ahead & meet me at the lighthouse.
PROBLEM: When I got to the lighthouse 1/2 hr. later, they were not to be
seen. A quick search of the adjacent fields and area did not locate
them, & I became concerned as they had taken a trail through the woods,
off the beaten track, & my sister-in-law had been wheezing with her
allergies. Another 1/2hr passed, and still nothing.
MORAL DILEMMA: As I travelled through the woods doing a more thorough
search, I wrestled with the need to stop & locate the many singing birds
vs. my growing worry to locate the errant couple.
CONFESSION: I did make some stops inbetween yelling and searching to
locate a few birds. There was just too much stuff around to ignore!!
To make a long story short, the wayward pair were eventually found
unharmed. I guess the upshot of all this is, you know you`re a fanatic
when you wish you didn`t have ( non birding ) house guests during prime
spring migration!!!It was nice to have family around, but I am now truly
just about frantic to get out there and find some birds!!! Had to stay
home this morning & do the yard thing, a little out of control after 13
days of rain & then a week of company.
Take care all, Leslie Fisher
