Just a heads-up for anyone who hasn't seen our west-coast visitor yet: as of 11:30am Sunday he/she was still working the Washington Channel in the same area as previously mentioned. When I got there around 11 there were three birders. By the time I left around 11:45 there were close to a dozen folks with scopes and binocs. (Not that we needed them, we could practically hand-feed the bird.) Most of the time the Loon seems to only stay up long enough to draw breath before diving back to work. But when munching on an eel, it stays up for extended periods so you can get spectacular views. Happy Looning! Roger Stone rogs@erols.com
