Hi, I had the wonderful opportunity of seeing the Pacific Loon on Saturday. A very nice man with a spotting scope let me look at it (the loon, not the scope) several times during my visit. My question is why is the loon there? While I am glad I got to see this rare bird, I wonder why it came here and why it is staying. I realize that no one knows the answer, but is there any speculation? I also wonder why it is so "tame". There were several recreational boats including two jet skis (one of which went right over the loon--who dove) puttering around the poor bird when I saw it. Could it be ill? Could it be an escape from some zoo? Will it ever find its way home? Just wondering, Dona donapatrick@juno.com Bethesda, Maryland PS Oh, and to show you all how inexperienced I am, I saw my first Great Crested Flycatcher in my back yard on Sunday morning. I usually check my e-mail first thing, but I chose to drink my coffee on the back porch instead and was rewarded with a what do you call it-- a "lifer" ? _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
