Greetings: Spent from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. (6/2) walking LillyPons Road from just off Rt 8 east to just over the brow of the hill. From 7:30 to 8:00 watched two pair of Dickcissels. They spent most of the time on the fences on either side of the road. Watched as one pair flew out into and out of the green (alfalfa?) low field on the south side. Watched as one pair mated. The female, on three different occasions, was carrying a piece of dry grass about 8 inches long. Looks like nesting to me. Also heard a fifth singing bird in the dry field near the intersection with 85, but could not locate it. Also heard at least two Grasshopper Sparrows and a single Eastern Meadowlark. and Orchard Orioles, Great-crested Flycatcher, Green Heron, Warbling Vireo and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.
