Thanks to Dave Czaplak for the great information provided on Pacific Loons in 
particular and loon behavior in general.  I had never been lucky enough prior to 
this to see a loon exhibiting that sort of behavior, so to me it looked odd indeed.  
As far as the identification goes, it was my own confusion that I needed to 
satisfy--I never questioned anyone else's ID of the bird.
