Hello Again: Made a brief foray into Courthouse Point WMA ( Cecil Co. ) today, and had a first spring male HOODED MERG. Still present are good numbers of waders, including GREAT EGRET, CATTLE EGRET, GREEN HERON, GREAT BLUE HERON & LITTLE BLUE HERON, both mature & immature of latter. The Cecil Bird Club will be meeting @ 7 am in the fishermans parking lot @ Conowingo Dam , Sat. 13, for anyone interested. My suet feeder is again being heavily visited by a Downy with one young, & today the Red-bellied is bringing one young in also. It`s a pleasure to sit on the deck & observe the activity. I succeeded in flushing a nestful of robins as I walked by some fruit trees that were occupied. When I approached the nest, I stopped to observe 4 speckled youngsters perched on the rim of the nest, who were also observing me. A moment later, there was pandemonium as they made a panicked virgin flight , yelling HELP ME in Robinese. I beat a hasty retreat with distraught parents bravely flying @ me. Later in the evening, as I sat surveying the yard, a Blue Jay, probably with no good on his mind, flew too close to the " nursery area ". Parent Robins to the attack, followed closely by Cardinals & Mockers , also nesting in the immediate vicinity. In the excitement that followed, I think the original intruder was forgotten, & it became a swarming- free- for- all. The action was intense, then it died off as quickly as it began, and peace reigned once more. `Til next time Leslie Fisher North East MD
