Groan...Now I have to bone up on Wood Sandpiper field marks. Thanks a lot, Phil. And I
was just set to learn how to separate Little and Snowy Egrets, thanks to an excellent set
of references courtesy of Harvey Mudd in response to my earlier query..

I did not find any of the above in Cecil County this weekend, but I did have the
following on Saturday (6/13) afternoon, in between rainstorms:
At Courthouse Point:
Great Egret (2)
Little Blue Heron (3 in adult plumage, 4 in mottled immature plumage - as Leslie Fisher
reported last week)
Killdeer (24)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (4)
plus lots of landbirds including Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Blue Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings,
Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warblers, Common Yellowthroats,Yellow-breasted Chat, both
orioles.

At Grove Neck Wildlife Sanctuary:
Mute Swan (4 adults, 3 swimming young)
American Coot
plus landbirds same as at Courthouse Pt.

I also checked the spot on Rt. 40 for the Least Flycatcher, but no show. However, it was
late in the afternoon and raining, not ideal. I have been searching Cecil County
diligently for Marsh Wrens and Chuck-will's Widows, and cannot find either this year,
despite covering spots that have been good in the past.

At home, like Leslie Fisher, I am hosting fledgling woodpeckers: Downy, Hairy, and
Red-bellied. Barn Swallows have also fledged. A Cooper's Hawk cruises through every
once in a while just to keep things exciting.
