I was hoping for Black-necked Stilts at Deal, but no luck. Has anyone seen them there (or elsewhere in MD) this year? Also, what's the scoop on Sandwich Terns at Ocean City? The Yellow Book lists them as regular breeders in Worcester County and Claudia Wilds' book mentions them at 4th St., but I have never seen them there. Here's what I did see/hear (To the record-keeping types: Sorry, I didn't take the time to count birds) At the 4th St. mudflats/Old Bridge Rd.: </excerpt>[snip] Brant (2 birds, late lingers at 4th St.) [snip] Marcia, I was at 6th street looking at the flats on Sunday at sunset. I too saw the Brant, and I also saw 3 Red-breasted Mergansers (one male and two females, if memory serves). Just south of 6th street is a Purple Martin house, so I enjoyed watching them cavort around as it grew darker and darker. Rob Hilton Bethesda Md. robert@csa.com
