Lydia: I'd be glad to send some martins if I could. We put up a 12
room house 4 years ago and got no martins the first year although a few
came by and checked it out, a breeding pair the second year that fledged
two (we think), none the third year and only saw 3-4 in the fall. This
year we had a breeding pair and an extra female in the house but there
have been regular visits from another colony somewhere nearby of as many
as six adults and, until recently, an assortment of this year's young.
It looks like our birds fledged two again. Its a joy to hear them
talking among themselves while we are working in the garden or sitting
on the deck. They all seem to have gone wherever it is that martins go
this time of year, however, we only see one or two now and then. Hutch
