Sorry for the delay in report, but this lame server wouldn't let me on until this AM.

Yesterday, (8/12/98) Harvey and Marion Mudd stopped by Gunther's Pond in Cecilton on their way to Vermont. Charlie Gunther told Harvey he'd seen an Avocet that day, and sure enough one was there. Harvey called me right away, I ran twelve old ladies off the road getting there, and got a great look at the bird. Also present were the usual shorebird suspects along with Stilt Sandpiper.

Later, Marcia Whitmyre went after the Avocet, and reported a Red Knot. According to my records both the knot and avocet are firsts for the county.

Gunther's Pond is off Rt 282 just east of Cecilton. From THE red light in Cecilton at Rt 213 turn east toward Delaware. Just outside town is the John Deere dealer. Turn into the lane just right of the dealership and follow it to the pond.

On my way this morning for another look and will repost later.
