Ospreyers: Below is a message that came out on MDO on Saturday, a day after the sighting. Several southern Maryland birders tried to relocate this bird without success. However, if there had been notification at the time... This also happened a few winters ago with an Atlantic Puffin at Point Lookout. The person(s) who found the bird didn't know who to call and left the bird. Calling the Voice of the Naturalist is great but doesn't help spread the word until after the fact. In case any of you are ABA members, you might carry the latest or an old version of the membership directory with you when you bird. This will give you the numbers of several local birders wherever you are. For southern Maryland, you can call: Patty Craig 301-872-5670 Kyle Rambo 301-373-5057 Doug Lister 301-994-2582 Jane Kostenko & Tyler Bell 301-862-4623 Bob Boxwell 301-872-5998 Shirley Wood 301-884-0594 Greg Miller 410-394-0769 Arlene Ripley 410-257-6105 or any other name you find in the directory since we are all linked by the Southern Maryland Audubon phone tree. California, MD Elton John (Rocket Man) http://www.anserc.org/ ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 22:47:39 EDT Subject: Woodstork at Point Lookout On Wed. Aug. 19th between 3:30 & 3:45 PM, I watched a single Woodstork fly over & land at the small pond behind the boat-launch parking lot at Point Lookout, St. Mary's Co., MD. I was standing on the new bridge that has been built over the outflow as the bird came into view. It landed on the far side of the pond, to the right of the Osprey platform. I tried, unsuccessfully, to call the Voice of the Naturalist today to report the sighting. No one answered the phone & there was no voice mail. If you wish to discuss this further you may e-mail me or call 516-473-6895. I reported the bird at the park office at about 4:10 that afternoon.
