Armas Hill (armas@wittnet.com). "Also notable, this week, a first for the state of Delaware: EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES have arrived from the South, with 2 appearing at a feeder in southern Delaware." FROM: Birdline Delaware, August 22, 1998. Andy Ednie (ednieap@wittnet.com) "The EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES that have been seen in Selbyville, a town in the far southern tier of the state, continued to be seen last weekend. [= Aug. 15/16] The location is from Rt. 113 in Selbyville, turn east on Rt. 54. Stop at the gravel pullout and watch the feeder and light pole on the right." Andy also wrote to me, indicating that this was the first record for Delaware. A search of the BIRDEAST archives, show no record for Delaware. >Also, does anyone know in which town in northwestern PA collared doves had >been reported a while back, and if they constituted that state's first >record? > I retrieved the following from the BIRDEAST archives. "An EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE has been seen in Conneautville in Crawford County. The bird has been at this location at least 5 days [?=July 31, 1996]. . . . This sighting may be a state record. Bird is spending time in a dead tree which can easily be seen on the right side of the horse pasture. Also spending time on the ground in the horse pasture. Best time to see bird is between 8 and 10 am." Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, August 4, 1996. E-mail from: <BIRDEAST@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU> It was also reported as seen on several subsequent RBA for August 8, 16, 19 and 22. But gone on Sept. 6, 1996. yours, Dave Bridge David@simsc.si.edu
