Barry and I went to Rock Creek Park, DC, again this morning, meeting Bill Dobbins there. Unlike previous days, there was a nice northerly breeze and cool weather, thanks in part to Bonnie. A very brief rain just at dawn was the kicker for a fine migrant fall-out. We arrived at 6:45 and had 9 species of warbler by 7:00 am. There were also a number of other migrants around. Total wa rbler species count was 13, pretty good for the end of August! American Redstart (12); Black and White (10); Magnolia (6); Black-throated Blue (6); Blackburnian (6); Worm-eating (3); Chestnut-sided (8); Black-throated Green (2); Blue-winged (1); GOLDEN-WINGED (1, YOY female); Nashville (1); Ovenbird (1); Common Yellowthroat (1). Notice *no* Canadas? Other species included: Rose-breasted Grosbeak (3); Baltimore Oriole (1); Eastern Wood- Pewee (4); Great-crested Flycatcher (2); Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (4); House Wren (3); Bobolink (4); R-T Hummingbird (4); Indigo Bunting (1), Veery (1). A Screech Owl was calling at the ridge when we arrived. Lots of Robins and Catbirds around as well, eating berries. Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper gail@umdd.umd.edu
