At about 0930 today, 1 Sept 98 at low tide the following were noted at the mudflats of Hunting Creek, just south of Alexandria and the beltway off the GW Parkway. The usual 4 gulls, Dbl-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Canadian-American Geese, Mallards, a Wood Duck and... Killdeer - 28 Greater Yellowlegs - 8 Lesser Yellowlegs - 10 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 6 Western Sandpiper - 2 Least Sandpiper - 24 Pectoral Sandpiper - 15 Short-billed Dowitcher - 1 Caspian Tern - 42 Forster's Tern - 136 A quick scan a Jones Point did not turn up anything unusual, though at least 20 (prob.) Greater Yellowlegs worked the hydrilla mats. Kurt Gaskill
