Some "Ospreyers" may not have seen the new & beautiful 32 cent
stamps. They feature four birds from tropical islands. The
species: Crested Honeycreeper, Cardinal Honeyeater, Antillean
Euphonia, and Green-throated Carib Hummingbird. The Crested
Honeycreeper (also known as Akohekohe) is an Endangered species
on Maui. The Cardinal Honeyeater has a disjunct distribution,
being found in Vanuatu, Santa Cruz Is, Solomon Is. and Samoa
(where I have seen it). The Antillean Euphonia is found in the
Antilles through Hispaniola, although it is rare in Haiti because
of extreme deforestation. The Green-throated Carib occurs from
Trinidad to the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico.

I will continue to use the Osprey, Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern
Bluebird, and Blue Jay stamps (1, 2, 3, and 20 cent, respectively).
They are great for missives heavier than one ounce and make it
possible to use only bird stamps!
