In was at the marina at havre de Grace today from 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. on a falling tide. The flats and the grass mayt were very extensive and there were a great many birds, although the viewing conditions were not always good because of sun and heat shimmer. Along with the usual suspects, there were Pied-billed Grebe 22 (excellent place for them) Double-crested Cormorant 4 Great Blue Heron 45 Great Egret 2 Canada Goose 200+ Mallard 50+ Gadwall 2 American Wigeon 8 Northern Shoveler 5 Blue-winged Teal 9 Green-winged Teal 2 duck sp many (I didn't bother with moth of them) Killdeer 45+ Black-bellied Plover 9 American Golden-Plover 1 Semipalmated Plover 3 Lesser Yellowlegs 6 Leasy Sandpiper 15 Semiplamted Sandpiper 5 Western Sandpiper 10 White-rumped Sandpiper 2 Pectoral Sandpiper 3 peep sp. 150 (small peeps I didn't try to ID) Spotted Sandpiper 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper 1 Laughing Gull 5 Ring-billed Gull 50+ Herring Gull 20+ Lesser Black-backed Gull 1 (2nd summer/3rd winter) Great Black-backed Gull 10+ Caspian Tern 75+ Forster's Tern 200+ At least 14 Turkey Vultures flew by, headed south. I saw 1 Chestnut-sided Warbler in the trees at the south end of the lot. The number of birds is quite impressive at low tide. Many of the shorebirds feed on the extesive grass mats.
