Well Folks, finally hit paydirt on the Broadwings, not at Turkey Point, but a trip to Hawk Mountain PA did the trick. The count between 12-1:00 on Sept. 18 was the highest since 1995- 3800 birds. The first 1,000 appeared, kettled, set wings and streamed off in 15 minutes. The sky was literally filled with them. This was definitely the experience of a lifetime for me. Previous to this, the largest kettle I`d ever seen was 50 birds. My husband, who was not with me, and for whom the quest for Broadwings has also become something of a Holy Grail, nearly wept when I told him. At least he wasn`t one of those who arrived on the mountain 10 min. too late to encounter the smug looks of all present.!! Leslie Fisher Cecil Bird Club.
