You're not alone.  I always get a bit paranoid when I'm birding near or in 
residential areas.  But when I stop and think about it a bit, I start to laugh.  
Why is it they think that their lives are sooooooo interesting that I would want 
to observe them up close with binoculars???  Once I get this laugh out of my 
system it is somehow easier to keep on going.

Ignore your neighbors and enjoy the birds!  That is unless the bird perches 
on your neighbor's bedroom window sill.  Then exercise some caution...grin.
