Good response Darius, and right along the lines of Pete Dunne and others who have observed that owners of all-night restaurants respond positively to the fact that all those weird people who are buying breakfast at 5:30AM are birders. As but one example, communities like Patagonia and Sonoita AZ have come to depend on birders traversing the TNC refuge and the famous nearby rest stop on the road above the wetlands. The ABA has published some good studies of the economic benefits of birding on a number of otherwise marginally-sustainable communities around the country. Lord knows the proprieters of motels and restaurants in Lewes (and Dogfish Head and the LLBean outlet in Rehoboth) couldn't care less if we saw nada mucho on the last FONT pelagic....we were paying customers of their enterprises. ....and if you've never read this stuff in Dunne's "Tales of a Low-Rent Birder", make haste, there's not a moment to lose! (sorry, in joke) So, honi soit qui mal y pense! David Strother Bethesda, Maryland dstrother@pop.dn.net
