Saturday 9/26/1998 - Was finally able to "close out" GREEN HERONS (found in all 23 Maryland counties). Two were found in Harford County at the swamp on Maryland Avenue at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. (Thanks, Dave Webb !!!). In Cecil County, Courthouse Point was bone dry ... no herons. Very quiet--best birds: (1) RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET , (1) PALM WARBLER (western), and (1) Black & White Warbler. Did find one Green Heron at Meadowside Park in Elkton along with lots of imm Little Blue Herons. Sunday 9/27/1998 - Hot--high in the mid-90's, remember. Watering the lawn, set the sprinkler up in the back of the house in the "bird area". Noticed and adult and two imm American Robins pulling up worms out of the wet ground. Soon joined by a female SCARLET TANAGER in the wet leaves of the trees and on the ground for a long time. Shortly after that, joined by a GRAY-CHEEKED/BICKNELL'S THRUSH. Great long looks at about 20-30 feet. Unfortunately, we couldn't convince ourselves that it was a Bicknell's--we vote for Gray-Cheeked.
