I must agree with Greg. Although I have been blessed with a couple of stellar migrants in my yard, I have found that most of the other birds that I have seen have been under impressive. Of course this could be due to a lack of a serious attempt to find birds. I am sure that there are birds coming through my yard that I am not seeing. Thrushes come to mind. I had several pair of wood thrush as well as robins breed in my yard this summer, and I have a wintering population of hermits and bluebirds, I suspect that I am missing other thrushes that are coming through. Aside from the Lincoln's sparrow that I posted a week or so ago, I had a very late whip-poor-will calling in my yard on Sunday night, around 7:30 pm. I also had an all time high of 3 screech owls calling on Saturday night, although there are often two. This is only the second fall that I have lived in my house, and again, I feel like I have missed some good birds during fall migration. It makes me wonder why I travel to well known spots as opposed to being patient and seeing what flies into my yard. Cheers, Todd Day Jeffersonton, VA BlkVulture@AOL.com
