Phil, Thanks for the input! <snip> > Himalayan Snowcock - Need it. Isn't Oct too late - snow and hunters? > I thought Aug or early Sep was best? <snip> *** You're right. August is better. Sometime in September marks hunting season. Here's a quote from an Elko, NV local who knows about the Snowcocks: "Nobody in their right mind would be up there at that time." Great, eh? So when am I going? Bingo. Late October. However, still having half a brain left (or some fraction thereof), I'm going to be doing the helicopter ride to find the birds. It's pricey, but my only sane option left. The guy who flies the chopper says if the weather permits him to fly, he's got a >90% success rate (flown 40-50 trips) for finding the birds in any month. Maybe he's a good salesman, but he sounded convincing to me. Climbing to 11,000 ft in inclement weather did not sound too enticing. So, a helicopter. Isn't that cheating? Do you use a boat to do a pelagic trip? It sure beats swimming 40 miles out to the Gulf Stream!!! Anyhow, is sounds like an adventure! -Greg Miller Lusby, MD
