Turkey Point Field Trip/ 10-03

Hey Folks:
Decent turnout for trip this am, 39 species, good warbler activity but
empty skies in the raptor dep`t.  Beginning bird watchers got excellent
looks at co-operative Golden-crown kinglet( heard everywhere,
conservative estimate 30-40 ),  Phoebe , Black-throated green W and
Scarlet Tanager.  Good thing,  I was feeling badly for them with their
poor borrowed binos and difficulty getting on darting little birds. Also
Palm, Parula, Blackpoll( caused much deliberation), Yellow-rump( many in
very drab first fall plummage) , Blackburnian( 1 ) ,Magnolia and
Bay-breasted.  Swarms of Blue-jays making pre-migration attempts @ the
point, then turning tail en masse caused many chuckles.  Some of the DOS
group had never observed this swarming behaviour before. I look forward
to this phenomena every fall at the point- those ridiculous jays!!
Ruby-crown Kinglets were much less numerous than their counterparts.
First Junco and white-throated sp. of the fall.  BG Gnatcatchers are
still hanging out.
