The National Geographic Field Guide states ..... Scarlet Tanager ..... "Some immatures show faint wing bars, compared with the bold white wing bars of Western Tanager" Wester Tanager .... "conspicuous wing bars: upper bar yellow, lower bar pale yellow or whitish" "grayish back contrasting with greenish-yellow nape and rump" Stokes "Field Guide to Birds - Western Region" has photos of both a greenish-morph and a grayish morph female. The yellow upper wing bar shows through on the greenish-morph, but the upper bar just looks white to me on the grayish morph bird. I couldn't find a drawing or a photo of a Scarlet Tanager with faint wing bars. Hope this helps.
