I went to the Eastern Shore this weekend, gung-ho for Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow to add to my Maryland list. I suspect lots of us "need" this for Maryland. I went from Blackwater to Elliott Island, then several marshy areas off Route 12, Worcester Co., and Assateague SP without the slightest success. Even Song Sparrows were tough to find. According to the Yellow Book this is the best month of the year for Nelson's. Last year I saw some at Sandy Hook NJ about this time (while searching in vain for a severely lost Smooth-billed Ani.) So where are they? Any hints and reports would be greatly appreciated. -- Steve Sanford Randallstown MD tanager@bcpl.net
