Hi All: Spent Thurs. @ Cape May, close to 1,000 Hawks counted for the day when we left mid-afternoon, great looks at Peregrine Falcon. Also wonderful opportunity to study the Sharpie/Coops ID. with both species wheeling right overhead almost constantly. About a dozen Merlin came through in typical fashion, now you see `em, now you don`t. We opted to stop at the Avalon Sea Watch on the way home instead of taking the ferry. In an hour, we had 30+ Gannet( mostly imm ), a mixed flock of Surf Scoter/Black Scoter, an imm. Great Cormorant( life bird ), and a Turnstone that appeared on the opposite side of the sea wall literally at arms length. These hardy folks count right through Dec.22, with peak migration yet to come in November. Numbers recorded are astounding,( 762,836 birds with 8 sp. tallied in `97 ) definitely worth a look for those interested in sea-going sp. Leslie Fisher Cecil Bird Club North East MD
