This morning, 27 Oct 98, at the Hunting Creek mudflats, just north of the Belle View picnic area off the GW parkway and just south of the beltway and Alexandria, at 0830, about 1 hour past low tide, in addition to the usual Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, the 4 gulls (at least 500+ Laughing Gulls present) and a Kingfisher, the following were noted.... Pied-billed Grebe - 1 Mute Swan - 1 C. Goose - 200+(est) Green-winged Teal - 1 Mallard - 26 Black Duck - 12 No. Pintail - 245 No. Shoveler - 199 Am Coot - 31+ Killdeer - 51 Greater Yellowlegs - 4 Lesser Yellowlegs - 5 Pectoral Sandpiper - 3 Caspian Tern - 4 Forster's Tern - 29 hydrilla mats just south of the bridge... Pied-billed Grebe - 46 Canada Goose - 40+(est) Mallard - 3 No. Pintail - 7 No. Shoveler - 7 Am Coot - 228 According to the VOS blue book, 98 Pied-billed Grebes were recorded at Hunting Creek 25 Oct 1991.
