Fran, The big OUCH! This has been my biggest hurdle. I never dreamed of spending this much on birding in North America in a year...but then again, the adventures have been sweet! I close my eyes--here are some numbers. The first number represents the number of species, the second number represents my cost per species at that juncture. For those of you data junkies, here are the ugly stats: 300 $7.87 426 $15.31 500 $16.11 (Attu/Gambell between here and 611) 611 $28.74 658 $29.87 701 $35.44 706 $38.74 (current) And now you know why this doesn't happen every year! I could have camped all across the continent which would have saved money. I could have driven over 100,000 miles and saved money, too. Of course, I'd also be out of job. Oh, well. If you see me with a shopping cart and all my clothes (no offense intended to the homeless), you'll know how I got there... Greg Miller Lusby, MD
