Fran,

The big OUCH!  This has been my biggest hurdle.  I never dreamed of
spending this much on birding in North America in a year...but then
again, the adventures have been sweet!  I close my eyes--here are some
numbers.  The first number represents the number of species, the second
number represents my cost per species at that juncture.  For those of
you data junkies, here are the ugly stats:

300  $7.87 
426 $15.31 
500 $16.11 (Attu/Gambell between here and 611)
611 $28.74 
658 $29.87 
701 $35.44 
706 $38.74 (current)

And now you know why this doesn't happen every year!  I could have
camped all across the continent which would have saved money.  I could
have driven over 100,000 miles and saved money, too.  Of course, I'd
also be out of job.  Oh, well.

If you see me with a shopping cart and all my clothes (no offense
intended to the homeless), you'll know how I got there...
