Phyllis, I use the Tri-Pack thing that ABA and others sell. It fits right on the scope and tripod like a flat backpack. Have never used Scope-Pack, which is considerably more expensive. Also, for travel, Tri-Pack is flat and small enough to fit right in a suitcase (without the scope, of course - I hand-carry that!). I suspect Scope-Pack would be a little bulky to take on a plane. In use, I like Tri-Pack because the scope is carried in an upright position, and if you like, the tripod legs can be fully extended during carrying. That means that if you are walking along and see something, it is very quick to set up. The shoulder straps are padded and very comfortable, and the pocket is big enough to hold a field guide and water bottle and a couple other things. On short walks (less than 1 mile), I don't bother wth the Tri-Pack, but it makes a great difference on long walks. I might add that I am quite small and carry a heavy Kowa scope and heavy-duty Celestron tripod. One problem to watch for is that on long walks the straps that attach the Tri-Pack to the scope legs may loosen, causing unanticipated separation of you and your scope! This would be easy to fix with a little velcro, but I have never gotten around to it. Tri-Pack looks a little awkward, but skeptics who have tried it find it surprisingly comfortable and easy to use.
