Hi All:
Participants of the Cecil 11/22 trip along the Susquehanna enjoyed some
sunny and mild weather, but no loons , despite diligent searching.
Isn`t that always the way, as I`d had good looks at them the previous
Friday. Some highlights:
Bell Manor Rd access to the river gave us Bonapartes Gull ( 6 ), many
Ring Bills, Lesser Scaup ( 8 ), Pied Bill Grebe ( 1 ) and Kingfisher (
1). ( Does everyone remember the instance when they first dropped a new
scope - the railroad tracks are an accident waiting to happen.)
At Logans Wharf in Port Deposit some of us had our first Snow Geese (
300 + ) of the season fly over. A close raft of 47 Coot gave one member
a photo opportunity.
At the Dam itself we observed 14 Bald Eagles ( 2 mature ). This eagle
congregation was a first for new club member Ron K. Also Black Vulture
( 1 ), Mockingbird ( 1 ), Great Blue Heron ( 15 ), Greater Black-backed
Gull ( 7 ), Black Duck ( 3 ). As time was running short for me to
comfortably get home and get ready for work, we did not walk the trail.
