To all, I have been politely informed that my previous post citing persimmon as a fruit needing frost to ripen was incorrect. The species ranges to southern Florida where frost is obviously rare, so I should have realized this. My misconception was based on the fact that the fruits ripen very late, which in the northern part of its range usually means after first frost. I apologize for the mistake, and I am grateful to be properly informed. It is good to know that there are those on the list who are both vigilant for facts and discreet with their corrections.
