The following is the results of Sector 5 of the Manassas/Bull Run CBC. Sector
5 is in the northwest section of the count circle (centered somewhere near the
intersection of US 29 and VA 28 in Centreville). Sector 5 is defined by I-66
on the south, and Bull Run on the east. The west and northern boundary is
determined by the arc of the count circle. Essentially the sector is the
Manassas Battlefield National Park, with some rural and residential areas to
the north, and an industrial park on the south.

Larry Cartwright is the sector leader. This year the sector had five groups.
Two groups of owling began at 5am.

The following is the species list that the group I was in submitted, followed
by the other species that were observed in the entire sector. The second
listing of birds has no totals due to the simple fact that I dont know them.
The group I was in consisted of Kurt Gaskill, Walter and Nikki Palmer, and
myself.

The Fox Sparrow total was rather large. The most the entire count circle had
previously yeilded was 12. We saw the sparrows in three groups of seven.
And, no, it was not the same group three times. Kurt and I had scouted a
couple locations that had yeilded some Foxes in the last couple weeks. One of
the locations had four birds about 3 weeks ago. This time it had 7. Also,
another area had seven (or more, seven was the most we could see at once in an
area that was very active with them). The third area was in a backyard under
a bird feeding station. There was at one time seven birds in view on the
ground under the feeders feeding with juncos and white throats. This feeder
also yeilded one of the chipping sparrows. The feeder is on Featherbed Road,
which is off of US 29, near the Groveton Cemetary.
