Yesterday's (Sunday's) odd wind pattern brought an
unprecedented flight of gulls over my home in northeastern
Cecil County. We do not live near water or a landfill, so
we usually have a few R-B Gulls and a Laughing or two in
season, and that's it. Yesterday brought our first-ever
Great Black-backed (at least 7), Herring (at least 5) and
two white-winged gulls that I was not able to identify to
species (too far, moving too fast). These birds were mixed
in with hundreds of R-B's to form a steady stream, lasting
for about half an hour (about 2 pm). The birds were moving
from east to west.
