a walk along constitution gardens, the reflecting pool, tidal basin, and
washington channel for gulls and raptors this afternoon produced nothing
unusual among the former, but an adult bald eagle lazing over the channel,
where it put up the gulls, then swooped down to the ice before being
escorted off by a few crows

the basin and pool are frozen over; a small section of the garden is
being kept open by a fountain (couple of wigeon)

up
on the return walk over the bridge to l'enfant plaza, a ring-billed gull
appeared to be standing on the head of another bird. binoculars revealed
the bird to be one of those plastic owls -- always suspected they were good
for something!
