Dear MdOspreyers, I for one am very glad that people are doing counts, surveys, etc. It is important that we know the distribution of species. However, it is not necessary that everyone run all over the state/region to see every bird everywhere. Let's give some thought to the amount of fossil fuel we use and pollution we generate in the pursuit of birds. Sometimes, you need to subvert your personal interests and hobbies to the common good. I can't and won't draw the line for anyone, but just ask that you at least consider these issues before running off to see a bird. And fill up the car with other birders if you must go. I'm sure Marshall and Jim realize that I don't mean to criticize them, but rather, use their post as a means to stimulate some thought and discussion.
