Phil, thanks for clearing up the MD list status. You saved me a hike over to the
MDDC RC website - I thought I saw TRSW on the official list when I checked it in
early January, but then Rick's post made me doubt my memory. And thanks for
sharing the historical account found by Harvey Mudd. There are still old-timers
in Cecil County who talk about swans, but it is hard to know if they are
referring to Trumpeters or Tundras. Hmm... just had a thought...I'll try to check
with the local Historical Society and the Upper Bay Museum to see if any local
written accounts are extant. Both of these organizations have a huge photo
collection, which might be even better.

FYI for those planning a trip to Conowingo: as of Monday night, flood gates are
being opened to release waters building up from snow melt up in PA. Officials are
expecting high waters below the dam and some flooding of the Port Deposit area.
This may mean the swans might move. Leslie Fisher and I will check it out
tomorrow morning and will post conditions.

For those who would like some more (possibly anecdotal and secondhand!)
information about Trumpeter Swans, I found the following web sites:
