    The ?Kelp Gull? was studied and photographed extensively from noon until
we all left around 3 p.m. today; the bird was still present on the pilings
behind the Sea Breeze Restaurant. Ottavio Janni, Rob Hilton, Dave Czaplak,
and Mary Ann Todd watched the bird from around 9:30 a.m. until right before
we got there at 12. It never left the area more than a few hundred yards
away, when it responded to someone tossing bread chunks in to the water off
his property. (The ?Kelp Gull? really likes McDonald's french fries, but
didn't respond well to Paul Baicich's pishing.) Jane Kostenko
