Upon driving up it was amazing to see all the scopes liked up along the wall. Must have been close to 50. Being the beginning birder, I don't have a scope yet, just binocs but everyone was more than helpful in allowing me views of the bird through their scopes. Many thanks to all those who helped me add the bird to my life list and special thanks to Rick Blom (now I can put a name with a face) for making sure the "entire" crowd saw the bird and pointing out its characteristics. I met several nice birders from New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia who had driven hours to see this bird. Also seen was a Thayers Gull. The Slaty was spotted around 2:45 flying and landed around 3. It landed about 50 foot to the right of the sea wall and stayed put for a long time. I left about 3:30 and it was still in the area. Everyone got a real good view. Janelle Dietrich Bowie, MD lovewhales@ccconline.net
