All - To extend Jane Kostenko's report from earlier today, the gull was present at the Seabreeze pier until 5:40 pm when it departed and flew upriver on the west side (the St Mary's County side). Kyle Rambo and I watched it for five minutes as it headed due northwest until it disappeared from view due to its distance. It appeared to be following the river edge--or more inland. It was not over the river proper. This appears to be the same departure flight path I noted on Tuesday, 2/15 at 5:45 pm. Does anyone know of any large gull night roosts in northern St. Mary's, northern Charles, or southern Prince George's County? It appears to be about 35-40 miles as the crow ... er, gull ... flies to the Washington, DC Hains Point roost. Does anyone think this bird would travel so far? That would be at least an hour of flying ... bringing it in after dark. Thoughts?
